White House Releases FY27 Budget Request  T he White House released its  FY27 budget proposal  this morning, which seeks $2.2 trillion for the federal government. As stated in the preamble, which reveals the president’s priorities, the proposal constrains non-defense spending, proposing a 10% cut compared to FY26 non-defense levels; maintains investments in border security and immigration enforcement; and requests $1.5 trillion for national defense, a 44% increase.  The Department of Labor would receive $9.9 billion, a $3.5 billion or 25.9% decrease, with investments in workforce development to promote post-secondary education and training options. President Trump Issues Executive Order to Support AI Education and Workforce Development

On April 23, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order (EO) to promote education on and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in K-12, higher education, and workplace settings through public-private partnerships with industry leaders and academic institutions . The order continues the Trump administration’s efforts to expand and promote this emerging technology. Quick Hits President Trump’s executive order aims to e nhance AI education and workforce development in the United States. The order establishes a cross-agency task force to implement the policy and prioritizes public-private partnerships with industry leaders and academic institutions to provide resources for AI education and workforce development. OFCCP Publishes VEVRAA Resource on Apprenticeship Programs

On August 1, 2024, the U.S Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) published   new promising practices   encouraging the use of apprenticeship programs to attract and retain veterans protected by the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974, as amended (VEVRAA). The promising practices help contractors understand how to implement apprenticeship programs that can benefit contractors and protected veterans. They also discuss how apprenticeship programs can support contractors’ efforts to promote equal employment opportunity. Under VEVRAA, federal contractors and subcontractors are prohibited from engaging in discrimination in employment practices against veterans and are required to provide equal employment opportunity in recruiting, hiring, promoting, and retaining protected veterans.   Earlier this year, OFCCP updated its  VEVRAA webpage .
